Copenhagen Ørestad Neighborhood Walking Tour
Tour Planning Request
We will visit the most avant-garde part of Copenhagen, Ørestad, located less than 10 minutes away from the city centre by metro, is considered the first city planned according to 21st century urban requirements and models. It was started in 2007 with the hope of reaching complete development within two decades. Currently, more than 50 buildings have been built, including an Exhibition and Conference centre, a shopping mall, a university, and the rest being mostly residential buildings.
The architects in charge of the city’s planning were the offices of Khr Arkitekter and ARKKI Aps. Daniel Libeskind is responsible for the third phase of Ørestad and his work includes the parking free pedestrian zone, located on a lower floor.
Several renowned architects have designed buildings in this neighbourhood. Here we can take an exterior tour, guided by our architect, of the different innovative housing such as the Mountain by PLOT: BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) + JDS (Julien De Smedt), the “8 House Mixed-Use development“ by BIG (Bjiarke Ingels Group) and the “T-Husene mixed-use development” by Steven Holl.
Some noteworthy public buildings include the Institute of Ørestad Secondary Education, facilities such as the Ørestad Gymnasium by 3XN Architects, student housing “Tietgenkollegiet” by Lundgaard & Tranberg, and “Bikuben” by A.A.R.T. In addition to the University of Copenhagen, the IT-University stands out for its Danish Radio (DR) with its new building designed for concerts by Jean Nouvel.
